A year and a half after the rent laws were amended in June 2011, the state's housing agency (DHCR) has proposed some new regulations to implement those changes.
Review the proposed changes, and testify on June 10th before a NYS Assembly hearing.
Here are a few of the proposed changes:
- Landlord must tell new tenant how and why apartment was deregulated, and the last regulated rent.
- Protection for tenants paying "preferential rents"
- No Major Capital Improvement (MCI) rent increase granted where there's an outstanding serious violation
- No MCIs for changes from master electrical metering to submetering (but increases may be ok for wiring upgrades).
